" Tullahan River (Caloocan)"

Tullahan River
Tullahan Bridge
August 11, 2010, Wednesday, we went to Tullahan River in Caloocan, boundary of Valenzueala and Caloocan for the conduction of this research paper. While walking on the Tullahan Bridge, we looked down and we saw how polluted the river is. There are lots of garbage’s on the side of the river, on the water and even beside the Tullahan Bridge. Both sides of the river have residents, on the right side, “Kalye Onse” and the left side the Apple Ville. We chose to conduct this research paper in Apple Ville instead of “Kalye Onse” because we heard that “Kalye Onse is not a safe place for us to go. We arrived in Apple Ville and we saw that only few houses are resided there, not more than ten. We went down and took some pictures.

Me, Nanay Kuring and Cris
Ramon, Nanay Kuring
We met the Gallado family. Gallado family is living in a small house, not far from the river. Lisa Gallado 34 years old and her husband Lito, 36 years old has six kids and Nanay Kuring, 62 years old, mother of Lito composed the family. Since Nanay Kuring is the eldest in the family, she is the best person to interview about the river. Nanay Kuring said that she have been living there for 50 years already and claimed that she is the care taker of the lot that there house was standing, we can’t confirm if this is true or not. We started to ask her about the river and we were curious what does the river look like 50 years ago. Nanay Kuring started to tell stories. She said way back before, Tullahan River was far from the river that we saw today. Young people are enjoying bathing in its clear and cool water, she said. They also manage to wash their clothes in the river, she added. According to her, fresh water fishes and turtles are visible in the river.

While she was telling stories about the river years ago, we could see that she is very proud about it. Then we ask her about the wastes and garbage’s that are scattered around the river. She said as time passed, the river is being polluted little by little by people. We asked her if they are being approached by garbage truck to get their trashes and she said yes, months ago. Nanay Kuring said that they are able to dispose their trashes before but now no more garbage trucks is coming to pick up their trashes. She also told us the mass of wastes we saw at the foot of the Tullahan Bridge were came from their Barangay Captain which is recently being featured in TV news, her statement also supported by other residents there. According to her, their Barangay Captain is the person to blame of throwing garbage’s to their place. We saw wastes from Hospitals like bottles of medicine, injections and other. We also saw wastes from food establishments like plastic cups, spoons, forks and Styrofoam’s.

Mang Lito

The man on the     picture is Mang Lito, he is picking up “talbos ng kamote” (sweet potato sprout) in front of their house to sell. Aside from kamote (sweet potato) they also grow kangkong plants (water spinach) that can serve as their food.

We all agreed to make a garbage stand along the street in Apple Ville where the garbage truck can easily pick up wastes of the residents. October 4, 2010, Monday, we went to Apple Ville to do the garbage stand, we brought materials like garbage sacks, woods, nails and hammer. First, we ask the resident’s permission to put up a garbage stand on their corner. We explained that we are students of Sta. Cecilia College and we would like to offer them a garbage stand to at least to manage their garbage’s. We all know that putting up one garbage stand on their area won’t fix the problem of pollution in Tullahan River, but we all want to imply that we are concern and we care. We would like also to at least open their eyes that they themselves must do the move to change their situation, a polluted area that could be a danger to their health. Then we started to work. One of the curious residents helped us in making it. Some are watching us doing it. Finally we’re done, our very own version of garbage stand and we call it “Tripod Garbage” because it is  a three-legged rack with three garbage sacks hung on it.

"Dance With My Father"

I first heard this song on FM Station and I easily liked the song. The song is telling a story about how bad he loved to dance with his Father again, who is now in heaven. The song is like a diary of his childhood that tells his experiences with his Father. The sad thing is he can only do so much but to dream about it that would never be happened  again in reality. Luther Vandross, the owner of the song died  just the album "Dance With My Father" was launched. I found out in Youtube that Luther's Father died when he was only nine years old. He didn't have a chance to see how successful his song became but I know that he is happy right now because his dream to dance with his Father again becomes real now that he is together with his Father again in heaven.
Whenever that song is played I can't help but to sing along with it and to think about my Father who is far away from me. He is working in Canada as a skilled welder and I am always praying that he is safe. He always leaves us when I was a child to work abroad. That thing was the reason why I am not close to him. He have worked in Africa, Saudi and now in Canada. I know his all sacrifices and I am thanking him about that. The sad thing is I can't bring myself close to him but I know that I love him and I wish him nothing but for him to be alright. The song "Dance With My Father Again" was surely moved the hearts of all the Father and son or daughter in the world, so as me
Dance with My Father is the 13th studio album by American R& B-soul singer-songwriter Luther Vandross. It was released in the United States on June 10, 2003 by J Records, his final album to be released before his death on July 1, 2005. The album, especially its title track, was dedicated to Vandross' late father. The album earned Vandross two American Music Awards in 2003—Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album—and four Grammy Awards in 2004—Song of the Year and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Dance with My Father" (also nominated for Best R&B Song), Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "The Closer I Get to You" (with BeyoncĂ©), and Best R&B Album.

Coffee Makes Me Happy:)

I always start my day with a cup of coffee that makes me comfy. Sometimes I want my coffee with cream and sometimes I leaved it black. I drink two to three medium cups of  coffee a day. It is like an energizer to me that makes me up to do my daily life. I can think better when I'm drinking it. I am energetic and funny or fool when I had it. It makes my eyes wide at knight when doing my assignments and projects in school. Drinking coffee becomes my tradition when reviewing for my exams since then. My brain becomes sponge that absorbs all the information that I needed to have a high score in my exams. Math is the only exception. Coffee can't do anything to lift up my grades in Math. I think I should overdose myself to caffeine just to become savvy on that subject. Well anyway, even coffee has no match with my Math, I'm still amazed of what can coffee do. I am always alive because of the best beverage in the world, my precious coffee and I can say, coffee completes my day and coffee makes me happy.

Facts About Coffee

When drunk in moderation (four to five regular size cups a day) is safe for healthy adults and can even have beneficial health implications as part of a healthy diet and physically active lifestyle.
Medical and scientific organizations around the world advise pregnant women to consume no more than 300 mg of caffeine per day (equivalent to 3 regular size cups of coffee). Recent guidance from the Food Standards Agency in the UK recommends that pregnant women limit their caffeine intake to 200 mg per day (approximately two regular size cups of coffee). It remains to be seen whether this precautionary point of view will be endorsed by scientific bodies around the world. All sources of caffeine should be considered when considering total daily intake; including coffee, tea, cola drinks, energy drinks and chocolate.

Coffee as Anti-oxidant
Antioxidants fight off the negative effects of oxidation such as oxidative stress. They neutralize free radicals and prevent them from harming cells and its key components such as DNA, protein, and mitochondria. They also work to slow down the damaging chain of chemical reactions caused by free radicals that can lead to oxidative stress, aging, and other illnesses.

President Noy-Noy's Inauguration

President Noy Noy’s Inauguration

June 30, 2010, it was a holiday, people working in government paused for a break, students in all levels have no classes and Filipino people are excited. It was a history, the inauguration of the President of the Philippines, Noy Noy Aquino will oath to give sincere and honest service and to be a good leader to the Filipino nation. Noy Noy is the 7th President to be inaugurated in Quirino Grandstand and now the 15th President of the Philippines. I was there, in a big crowd at that very place where the inauguration was held. Me and my friends, Sta Cecilia College students are there and eye witnessed the event with the feeling of gratitude that we are able to be part of the history. Juana Change and Jim Paredes are the hosts for this historic event. Filipino international artist Charice Pempengco sang the national anthem. Noel Cabangon sang his own composition telling about being a good Filipino. Apo Hiking Society and Ogie Alcasid performed and sang nationalistic songs. Regine Velasquez sang Di Ka Nagiisa which was the campaign song of Noy Noy.
Finally Noy Noy arrived and the whole crowd shouted. Noy Noy starts to say his speech. On his speech, he stated his plans and priorities of his administration for the following six years of his leadership. President Aquino said that he will preserve the democracy as his parents did. He said that democracy is the foundation of unity and he will hold the torch forward that once his parents did in fighting for the democracy. His slogan “Kung Walang Kurap, Walang Mahirap” is not just for poster he said, but will serve as the standing principle of his administration. He said that he will take an eye to those corrupt officials and stop the graft in the government. President Aquino asks the Filipino people to help him in this battle to end the poverty in the country. He stated that he will revive the project of the late Corazon Aquino which is the Emergency Employment that aims to build new infrastructures that will gives employments to the local community that can be helpful to elevate our economy. He is also planning in making our soldiers and polices to increase its number for the security of the Filipino. He said that there will be no more fertilizer scam this time but make importance of our farmers and build irrigation, extension services, and helping them in trading there products by putting up trading centers. He is planning to make our country to be fascinating to investors for businesses. He said that he will asks DFA, POEA, OWA and other associations to strengthen the provision of jobs for OFW’s. He promised that the government will become transparent to the people. He also talked about pushing a move to have a quality education and vocational course for the people who are not able of going to college. He proposed to continue the philhealth and to provide o home inside of a safe community for the Filipino. Our responsibility as a neighbor country in the international matter will not be neglected he said, but to be more cooperated and to reach the goal of intensifying our connection. His speech in entirely is mere about defeating poverty and hunger, providing jobs for the Filipino, making the Philippines charming to the tourists and investors, quality education, meeting the needs of our farmers, decent streets, bridges and buildings and keeping the principle “Kung Walang Kurakot, Walang Mahirap”.
The whole Filipino who have watched his speech are surely relieved and cast a dream of having a realization of a Bagong Pilipinas. I personally expect much difference in his administration. And as what he said, he can’t do this alone, he needs us to be cooperative of making a change. In his line “Kung kailan tayo nanalo, tsaka pa tayo susuko?”, I know lot of people are moved and awaken that if we really want to see a difference, it should always start to ourselves. I’m not used to being nationalistic, but that day I am. This historic event will always be part of my life and I can proudly brag to my friends that I was there.

Ever Memorial

                          Visiting our  Lola Lolita's  grave..
We had lunch under the tree near my Lola's grave.
The whole family got together and paid respect
to our Lola and offer her a prayer.

La Union Beach

It's been a long time since I had bathe in Cabarsican Beach.
It's a nice feeling going back there and my memories on that beach
refreshed. We used to swim there together with my cousins and my family
and we had much of fun. In high school we used to spend our Christmas Party there. Fresh air, the ocean breeze..that's life. It's fun to watch the sunset until the sun disappears. Until we go our separate ways when the dark comes. And see each other again in the morning.

"Old Friends"

Last April 25, 2010, I got to see my high school friends after a long while. Since I came to Manila, that's four years ago, I never got to see them again. While I'm on my way to La Union, there are lots of things playing into my mind. I'm imagining what La union will look like after four years.I am trying to figure out what are the changes in the place where I grew up. Till I finally arrived, I could see our Public Market improved a lot as my friends told me. It is now two story building and more organized. I saw mini restaurants around and other establishments that I never saw before. The day came to meet up my friends, I'm excited and happy.Alvin who is chubby before is slim now, he just finished his course HRM in college. Jovelyn, a registered nurse, who used to be the simple cute girl who always blushes when laughing is now wearing make-ups and I must say she looks prettier now, honestly I have a big crush on her way
back in high school. Tercer the talkative, a tall and slim guy gained weight and now a daddy, congratulations to him. Jecel, Who is currently reviewing for Board Exam in Nursing, loves to giggle out loud and still
wild when get excited, she laugh intensely and even spank people near her in her excitement, I avoid sitting next to her. Rodel who is the quiet guy and muscular is still quiet but more bulky this time. Arturo the smiley face is now waiting for his papers to be processed for his work in Africa, good luck to him. Lisa, the singer and guitarist and also funny at times is now applying as elementary teacher, hope she can make it. And me, I don't know exactly what changes in me after four years. May be this time I talk a lot and more energetic compared before because I used to be the shy, quiet guy and just minding my own world. I am as slim as before and there are no major changes in me physically. We drunk the famous D' Bar for boys and red wine for the girls near the sea in Nipa Hut. Only Alvin join the girls drinking red wine that I brought, maybe because he  is used to that drink as a HRM graduate. We chat and laugh all day till night. We brought back stories of the past and reminisce. That day is very memorable
to me. As life goes on, you can't resist to change and go through a lot of things. Looking back and laughing on it with old friends
is so nice to do.

SHADOW

I am a shadow
I have no soul
and I can't speak
No eyes for seeing
I have no face to show off
I idolize someone
and I am following
him in light
He is the true thing
He has everything
I wanted myself
to have
He can see things,
he can say a word
everyone knows his face
I can't do anything
I am dark
and here comes
the dawn
and the light will be gone
and I will vanish
cause I am a shadow
I have no soul
can't speak
and blind..

As you can see on my poem
it is more likely "emotastic".
There is a point in my life
where I felt like nothing
and worthless.
All I can see is my palm..and I am not holding
anything. That time I have
so many insecurities..self pity.
I am being pessimistic
and I forgot my worth in
this world.
